How To Get Noticed on LinkedIn

If you spend any time researching jobs online, you know that companies are looking for talented people. But if you’re on LinkedIn and you aren’t getting noticed by recruiters or hiring managers, you may be wondering what’s going on. The fact is, if you want to get noticed on LinkedIn, you’ve got to put forth a little bit of effort. Use these tips to help recruiters find you as they search for top talent.

“LinkedIn is quite a powerful tool! The tips below are great, but also remember to build a relationship with a recruiter that specialized in your niche and industry. Don’t forget to apply to jobs lists on LinkedIn and other job boards!” Says Sharon Tsao, CMO, Contemporary Staffing Solutions.

Optimize Your Profile

In order to get noticed on LinkedIn, you have to be searchable. To increase your chances of showing up in a search, your profile must be optimized. Incorporate keywords in each section of your profile and include several variations of the job titles you’re ultimately looking for.  If you aren’t sure what terms to include, study job postings and notice the skills and terminology that are common to all of them.

Update Your Headshot

In 2019, no one is interested in a profile that lacks a headshot. It makes you look out of touch, it implies you lack internet savvy and it can make it seem like you have something to hide. Your profile picture should be a professional headshot and it should be a recent photograph taken within the last two years.

Turn On “Open To Opportunities”

LinkedIn has an option that will tell recruiters and hiring managers you are open to new opportunities without announcing to the universe that you are conducting a job search. This is especially useful for people who are trying to conduct a confidential search while employed.  Under the “jobs” tab is where you will find the option to let recruiters know you’re willing to entertain new opportunities.

Share Career Interests

Once you have turned on “Open To Opportunities” you can take it one step further and share with recruiters the types of jobs you’re interested in and would entertain. Not only will this get you noticed, it will also attract opportunities that are aligned with your goals.

Build Your Network

LinkedIn is only valuable if you use it your advantage. It’s not a “set it and forget it” type of tool.  For a few minutes every day, spend time on the platform to like and share content, contribute to group discussions and build new connections.
